So, the Funky Drummer series is finally complete after 18 volumes. The DMCA took down a couple of 'em, but neither one included tracks that couldn't have been found in a million other places, so it's not that big of a deal. Next up is a compilation of samples for the excellent "Super Bad". I can't believe that this song hasn't been sampled more often. And now, it's time for the Funky Drummer.

Over the last month or so, I've hit the collection pretty hard for samples of this JB classic. I even contacted the hip hop encyclopedia Kevin Beacham to see if he could provide me with some missing links, and it turns out that he put together his own James Brown sample list several years ago, so this shit is gonna be major.

The first two volumes will be comprised of tracks that were recorded between the years of 1979 and 1987. For the purposes of quality control, I will not be including every single track that sampled the Funky Drummer, but I'll still have enough for at least 15 volumes. All hip hop tracks will be listed in a loose chronological order, so If I miss any pertinent ones, drop me a line in the appropriate comments section.

Motion Man has always been one of my favorite bay-area MCs. According to an interview I read on the web (which I can't seem to find), he recorded enough material to release a full-length album in the early 90s, but as of November 2009, all we have is the "Mo Like Flows On" 12" single. Such a shame.

My personal favorites are "93 Swing" and "Bounce", but really, I love pretty much everything on this compilation.

Sir Ibu was a monster MC from the late 80s hip hop crew Divine Force. His lyrical prowess was especially evident on tracks like "Holy War" and "I'm The Peacemaker". Unfortunately, aside from those two classics, there are only four other tracks in his discography.

I paid $50 for a mint condition copy of "I'm The Peacemaker" about a decade back, and I would kill to get my hands on any unreleased material from the late 80s. I'm assuming that he threw in the towel as a result of dismal sales for the Peacemaker 12", but I'd bet that he has some great unreleased tracks in the vault.
